What is GAMSAT UK?
GAMSAT UK is the Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test. It is the medical entrance test you will have to sit for before you apply to the graduate-entry medical courses in one of the five premier Universities in UK. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in conjunction with the Consortium of Universities conducts GAMSAT UK.
Who can sit for GAMSAT UK?
If you hold a Bachelor’s Degree (or, are studying in the penultimate or final year at college), you are eligible to apply for UK GAMSAT. It is not compulsory for you to have a science degree. Students from Humanities and other social sciences (or any other stream) can also apply. The three basic criteria which most Universities use include:
- Undergraduate Honours degree
- GAMSAT scores
- Interview
What is the GAMSAT UK test like?
GAMSAT will grill you with questions on reasoning from various subjects: humanities, the social sciences, biology, chemistry and physics. GAMSAT is about applying what you learnt in class and not just mugged up facts and theories. It is all about data interpretation. Suppose you are given a question on systolic and diastolic pressure of a normal human body…you would perhaps be at ease with answering it. But what if new parameters were added? For instance, the person tested upon, was kept on different diets? So as you can realize it is more of analyzing a set of data , extrapolating information from it and then inferring a conclusion…GAMSAT is about challenging learnt knowledge.
List of universities in United Kingdom that use GAMSAT scores for admission to their medical and health science courses is as follows:
