What is the UKCAT?

UKCAT is the UK Clinical Aptitude Test. It is the UK medical entrance test for entry into the medicine and dental degree programs in UK Universities. 26 out of the 31 medical colleges in the UK use the UKCAT scores in their admissions process. To know more, click here.

I suffer from a disability. Can I sit for the UKCAT?

Yes you can. The UKCAT has made special provisions for students with disabilities. Depending on the condition you suffer from, UKCAT may even allow you to take the alternative version of the UKCAT called UKCATSEN. The content and structure of the UKCATSEN is the same as the UKCAT, only the test time limit is greater. To know more, click here.

What does the UKCAT test?

The UKCAT is designed to assess a candidate’s mental abilities, how they might respond to patients and medical challenges. UKCAT questions are devised to test critical thinking, verbal, numerical and decision making skills. To know more, click here.

What is the format of the UKCAT test?

The UKCAT is a two-hour computer-based test. It consists of five sections:

Section 1 – Verbal Reasoning

Section 2 – Quantitative Reasoning

Section 3 – Abstract Reasoning

When should I take the UKCAT?

The UKCAT test is offered between the 7th of July and the 9th of October. The deadline for registration is the 25th of September.

Where do I take the UKCAT?

UKCAT tests are conducted at Pearson VUE test centers. When you register to take the test, you will have to choose from available test centre options. Do register early, as test dates fill up very quickly.

How much does sitting for the UKCAT cost?

The fee for UK/EU Residents is £60 up to the 31st of August. From the 1st of September, the fee becomes £75 (an additional £15 is charged as late fees). The fee for test centres outside the EU is £95.

When will I receive my score?

You will know your UKCAT score on the test day itself.

What is the pass mark for the UKCAT?

There is no pass mark for the UKCAT. A UKCAT score is only one of the selection criteria on the basis of which Universities grant admission. Other factors include your UCAS Personal Statement, A-Level or/and AS level results and the Interview. Each individual University has its own unique admissions process. How important is a UKCAT score?

Your UKCAT score will form an essential part of your application along with your UCAS Personal Statement, A-Level or/and AS level results and the Interview. A high UKCAT score will make sure that you are submitting the best possible application.

My first attempt at UKCAT was not that good. Can I re-sit the UKCAT?

You are allowed to take the UKCAT only once per year. You can reapply to sit for the test next year.

Do I need to prepare for the UKCAT?

Although it is an aptitude test with no given syllabus, you can still prepare for the UKCAT. It is a highly competitive test with limited time duration. Most candidates do not even manage to finish the test. Practice online sample tests to familiarize yourself with UKCAT questions and the onscreen test format.
