UKCAT Practice Papers: Making The Most Of Limited Time

Once you register for the UKCAT and sit down to study for it, the first thought that strikes is how much there is to be done. The list of things-to-do seems to be never-ending, what with the collection of preparation materials, chalking out the pattern for preparations, looking for coaching classes and preparing a timetable for the entire time leading up to the day of the UKCAT. Of course, all these, and worrying about how you are going to fare in the exam and finally, in the UKCAT interview.

Remember that time is a huge factor in any competitive exam, and the UKCAT puts your speed to the acid test. And time management is not only important during the exam, but in the phase of the preparation as well, because, if you have not practiced managing time while you are solving your mock papers, it is likely that you will not understand its significance before it is too late. So, begin at the beginning. Chalk out the time for preparation of each section, and follow it methodically.

Solving the practice papers is of utmost importance, so remember to devote the most time to it. Time will be running fast when you are preparing for the UKCAT. However, make sure that you sit down to solve the practice papers only after you have somewhat grasped the content of the various sections of the exam. Without this understanding, you will be spending an unnecessary amount of time when you actually sit down to solve. It is advisable to start with the practice paper solving part after the first week or so of preparations. Before that, get hold of some books and additional materials that will help you in understanding the sections and give you some practice regarding the abstract reasoning and quantitative reasoning. Only after you feel that you have a pretty good idea as to what to expect in the test and how to tackle the questions, sit down to solve the papers.

Do not forget to time yourself when you are solving the UKCAT practice papers. This is absolutely mandatory. After solving the papers and timing yourself for a while you can also indulge in some group study. That is, if you have friends who are also intent on taking up the UKCAT, solve the papers with them, timing yourselves the same. That way, you can compare your speed and pick up tips to improve. Moreover, group studies will also allow you to compare and discuss your answers. There is hardly anything else that can evaluate your position better: being pitted against your competitors.

Also, take up some mock tests if you can avail them. They are a great way to evaluate how much you can strike that perfect balance between speed and accuracy.
